Job Responsibilities
- Provide patient care under the direct supervision of the Hemodialysis Registered Nurse for assigned patients in the acute setting.
- Perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures for assigned patients as prescribed.
- Administer and monitor treatments in accordance with the current treatment plan under the direction of the Hemodialysis RN.
- Report and document all new and unusual incidences, information, complaints, or problems to the RN.
- Support the FMCNA commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAI) Activities.
- Set up and prime equipment as directed by the Hemodialysis RN for renal replacement therapies.
- Evaluate vascular access for patency and obtain necessary pre and post treatment vital signs and weight.
- Perform vascular access cannulation as defined by the state and report any difficulties or unusual findings to the Hemodialysis RN.
- Document patient treatment information appropriately in the individual patient record.
- Report significant information or changes in patient condition to the Hemodialysis RN.
- Ensure appropriate safety alarms are used during every treatment.
- Collect, label specimens and ensure timely delivery to the laboratory per facility policy.
- Evaluate and document patient response to interventions and any changes in condition.
- Evaluate patient’s vascular access during treatment and provide necessary interventions.
- Initiate basic CPR measures in the event of cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest.
- Participate in staff meetings and training of new employees as assigned.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Hemodialysis experience
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to operate dialysis related equipment safely
Preferred Skills
- Six months of hemodialysis experience
- CPR Certification
- Successful completion of a training course in hemodialysis
Requirements
Experience: Minimum of one year medical-surgical nursing experience; six months of hemodialysis experience preferred.
Education: Current appropriate state licensure.
License & Certification:
