Position: Supervising nursing operations in Medical/Surgical departments

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall operations of the Medical/Surgical departments.
  • Engages and maintains partnerships throughout the system and community.
  • Facilitates a multi-disciplinary approach for planning and implementing clinical protocols.
  • Leads practice innovations to produce quality outcomes and a culture of safety.
  • Builds a strong team through recruitment, retention, education, and competencies.
  • Promotes effective relationships among all disciplines to achieve quality outcomes.
  • Engages in creating an Interprofessional environment that promotes respect, trust, and integrity.
  • Supports the direction and vision of the organization and communicates changes effectively.
  • Mentors team and others to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Responsible for sound fiscal management, including staffing and resource allocation.
  • Assists the Director with creating and managing the operating and capital budget.
  • Coordinates patient care management across the system, including clinical protocols.
  • Monitors clinical outcomes and enforces compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Recruits and interviews applicants, ensuring appropriate staffing.
  • Responsible for staff performance evaluations and provides ongoing coaching.
  • Maintains appropriate standards for discipline and termination.

Required Skills

Core Skills

  • Knowledge of department standards related to acutely ill or injured patients.
  • Demonstrated success in clinical practice and team building.
  • Ability to lead through influence in a complex system environment.
  • Good organizational skills to coordinate and delegate work assignments.
  • Knowledge of Stormont-Vail HealthCare's administrative and clinical organization.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Directors and other department staff.

Preferred Skills

  • A3 and/or LEAN experience.

Requirements

Experience: 3 years of nursing experience; 1 year supervising or managing others.

Education: Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

License & Certification:

  • Registered Nurse - KSBN
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire.
