Job Title: Perioperative Technician/PCA - Same Day Surgery

Position: Provides personal care and support services under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Job Type: Full Time

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides all personal care services in accordance with the plan of treatment assigned by the registered nurse.
  • Measures and records intake and output.
  • Measures and records vital signs, O2 saturation, weight, height.
  • Positions patients; lifts and turns patients.
  • Applies/utilizes special equipment.
  • Assists in use of bedpan, urinal or commode.
  • Ambulates the patient.
  • Provides pre-operative and post-operative care.
  • Applies/removes anti-embolism stockings and SCD devices.
  • Removes foley catheters.
  • Performs perineal care and vaginal irrigations (non-sterile).
  • Administers sitz baths and non-medicated enemas.
  • Applies heat and cold treatments.
  • Provides care for the incontinent patient.
  • Performs skin care to the immobilized patient.
  • Removes saline locks and empties colostomy bags.
  • Collects, labels, and transports lab specimens.
  • Accurately documents care provided according to policies and procedures.
  • Consistently performs basic care requirements such as rounding and responding to patient needs.
  • Coordinates unit functions to provide safe and smooth operations.
  • Adheres to cardiac monitor responsibilities.
  • Validates cardiac alarms and notifies staff of alarms and changes in cardiac rhythm.
  • Documents validation on the appropriate form.
  • Performs monitor count each shift to assure all monitors are present.
  • Transcribes orders and maintains medical records.
  • Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures cleanliness of equipment.
  • Applies safety principles when performing care.
  • Assists in performance improvement activities.
  • Maintains well organized and clean nursing unit.
  • Maintains statistics/logs as required by the unit Manager/Director.

Requirements

Experience: Approved previous experience in giving patient care or completion of in-service education classes required.

Education: High school education or equivalent required.

License & Certification:

  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider training

Schedule:
