Job Responsibilities
- Support nursing leadership and staff in the assigned unit, department or service.
- Serve as leadership support for staff, physicians, and other providers on service-specific clinical issues.
- Plan and coordinate clinical requirements for staff in conjunction with the nurse manager.
- Assist with coordination of unit staff schedules and submit for manager approval.
- Coordinate clinical training requirements with staff regarding equipment and supplies.
- Consult with preceptors and orientees regularly to provide support.
- Assist in preparation, oversight, maintenance, and monitoring of budget utilization.
- Collaborate with manager for issue resolutions and improvements.
- Collaborate with departments to resolve issues and improve workflows.
- Participate in the interview process and selection of new staff.
- Oversee personnel actions such as hiring, performance appraisals, and terminations.
- Mentor and coach staff including entry-level nurses and nursing care assistants.
- Assess performance of staff and provide ongoing feedback.
- Communicate equipment or supply issues to appropriate support teams.
- Facilitate provision of clinical education updates and skill check-offs.
- Provide immediate support or education on policies and procedures as needed.
- Learn, implement, and teach new technology/procedures.
- Provide clinical consultation and guidance to facilitate patient care.
- Round on patients and families to ensure service delivery meets standards.
- Supervise and coordinate delivery of patient care for assigned areas.
- Support the charge nurse to ensure staffing needs are met.
- Facilitate assignments that support learning for orientee or nursing learner.
- Promote an atmosphere of open communication among staff.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and compliance.
- Review and follow up on SRSs related to team or patients.
- Facilitate staff participation in departmental and hospital meetings.
- Coordinate and direct departmental projects with follow-through.
- Perform other duties as directed by the department manager.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Knowledge of nursing scope and practice
- Ability to assess nursing needs and communicate effectively
- Competent in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirements
- Ability to teach patients and families
- Effective documentation skills
- Ability to navigate clinical software and provide patient care
Preferred Skills
- CNOR certification
Requirements
Experience: Two or more years of OR experience
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing required
License & Certification:
- Current or compact RN license in the State of North Carolina
- BCLS certification
