Job Responsibilities

  • Observe patients and assure that safety needs are met.
  • Assist with providing basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Directly observe patients at all times.
  • Keep patients who are at risk for harming themselves or others safe.
  • Measure and record intake and output.
  • Assist with positioning, lifting, and turning patients.
  • Assist in the use of bedpan, urinal, or commode.
  • Care for incontinent patients.
  • Provide skin care to immobilized patients.
  • Ambulate patients.
  • Feed patients.
  • Carry out all safety precautions noted on daily assignment sheet.
  • Accurately document care provided according to policies and procedures.
  • Participate in economical utilization of supplies and ensure that equipment and patient rooms are maintained in a clean, safe manner.
  • Assist nursing staff in maintaining a safe environment for suicidal patients by limiting personal items in patient rooms.
  • Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Perform compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, and colleagues.
  • Identify and reduce unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience: Previous patient care experience preferred.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

License & Certification:

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider required within 30 days of employment.

Schedule:

  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts.
