Job Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting, based on the nursing process and within role/scope of practice.
- Performs preliminary assessment of patients through observation and chart review to facilitate appropriate follow-up with health care team.
- Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention.
- Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and/or management.
- Accepts accountability and uses independent nursing judgment for care provided by self and by health care providers to who care is delegated.
- Demonstrates the appropriate use of standards, effective use of resources, and evaluation of patient response in the delivery of patient care.
- Uses standards of care and standards of practice to guide care delivery.
- Bases decisions made/actions taken on relevant scientific principles, established standards of care and/or research findings.
- Seeks assistance/credible resource when unable to perform safely and independently.
- Determines/revises priorities for direct/indirect patient care activities based on patient acuity and available resources.
- Updates daily care plan to include appropriate algorithms for safe patient handling.
- Uses established patient care support systems including documentation, communication, & information.
- Responsible for educational instruction to patients and families with health care needs.
- Identifies teaching/learning needs of patient and evaluates effectiveness of patient and family teaching.
- Assists in orientation of new employees according to unit orientation plan.
- Applies information gained from educational experiences when providing patient care and instruction.
- Assumes responsibility for the development of others.
- Engages in mentoring and networking activities to promote professional development.
- Fosters the integration of staff and/or students into the health care team.
- Facilitates incorporation of the unit's mission, values, and vision.
- Demonstrates skill in the management of conflict situations.
- Promotes trusting relationships and open, honest communication at the unit level.
- Interacts with various members of the health care team to meet patient care needs.
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities as appropriate.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Current Registered Nurse license
- Basic Life Support certification
- Clinical knowledge in nursing care
- Independent nursing judgment
- Patient assessment skills
- Excellent communication skills
Preferred Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Associates of Science in Nursing Degree
- Enrolled in a BSN program
Requirements
Experience:
Education: Must obtain permanent RN license within 90 days of graduation; current RN permit required in some states
License & Certification:
- Registered Nurse license
- Basic Life Support certification
