Job Responsibilities
- Assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and surgeon.
- Prepare the operating room according to surgical procedure protocols.
- Ensure the operating room environment is safe and equipment functions properly.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and expedite procedures by passing instruments and supplies.
- Maintain a sterile field in accordance with accepted protocols.
- Perform counts with the circulating nurse to assure accuracy.
- Coordinate treatments and procedures to facilitate patient care.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Knowledge of cardiovascular surgical procedures
- Sterile and aseptic technique expertise
- Ability to perform complex surgical tasks
- Competency in emergency medical equipment usage
Preferred Skills
- Completion of an Operating Room Technician course
- Experience in a cardiovascular or vascular operating room setting
Requirements
Experience: None required, but must demonstrate competency within 6 months.
Education: High School Education or Equivalent
License & Certification:
- National Certification through NBSTSA
- CPR certification for direct patient care providers
