Job Responsibilities

  • Track and follow-up on all infants with abnormal NBS results.
  • Ensure procedures align with program guidelines and comply with national standards of care.
  • Facilitate treatment options and guide primary care providers on care algorithms for over 30 screened disorders.
  • Support families in adhering to treatment plans.
  • Review daily abnormal and unacceptable NBS lab results from the state laboratory.
  • Evaluate findings and coordinate patient care with healthcare professionals, including primary care providers and specialists.
  • Use the Neometrics Action Manager to address follow-up tasks and ensure timely action for critical results.
  • Locate noncompliant families or those who cannot be reached and consult with physicians on next steps.
  • Refer infants diagnosed with classic disorders to the CSHCN Program for ongoing case management.
  • Document all actions in the case management system, including coordination with providers using external laboratories.
  • Regularly consult with specialists to develop care plans and coordinate the ordering of metabolic formulas.
  • Conduct research to stay current with NBS developments.
  • Educate families and the community about the importance of screening and adherence to care.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with OMCFH, NBS staff, and state lab representatives.
  • Serve on the NBS Advisory Committee to review screening protocols and make program recommendations.
  • Attend state and national meetings related to NBS case management.
  • Assist the Nurse Supervisor in training hospital staff on proper blood spot collection.
  • Collaborate with the State Laboratory to improve NBS processes.

Requirements

Experience: Two years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a registered professional nurse.

Education: Baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited four-year college or university or an associate degree with additional experience or certification.

License & Certification:

  • Current West Virginia license or temporary permit to practice as a registered professional nurse.
