Job Responsibilities

  • Engages in population appropriate communication.
  • Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks.
  • Gives clear instructions to patients/family regarding treatment.
  • Involves family/guardian in the assessment, initial treatment and continuing care of the patient.
  • Identifies any physical limitations of the patient and deploys intervention when necessary.
  • Recognizes and responds appropriately to patients/families with behavioral health problems.
  • Interprets population-related data and plans care appropriately.
  • Identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from unique psychological needs or those associated with religious/cultural norms.
  • Performs treatments, administers medication or operates equipment safely.
  • Recognizes and responds to signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect.
  • Uses critical thinking, nursing process, principles of adult learning, and age appropriate teaching strategies in implementation of educational programs.
  • Provides orientation, preceptor support/development, coaching/mentoring, quality initiatives, and annual competency assessment/validation.
  • Ensures effective learning experiences for competency assessment and validation to reflect practice changes.
  • Collaborates with nursing leadership and other organizations to implement nursing education and professional development programs.
  • Role models professional nursing and interprofessional collaborative behaviors.
  • Demonstrates attributes of growth mindset and embodies the mission/vision/values of UC Health.
  • Supports performance improvement, evidence-based practice, and nursing research efforts.
  • Uses available data to monitor/evaluate performance of department programs and initiatives.
  • Participates in project implementation.
  • Maintains clinical competence related to specific unit patient population.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of clinical specialty and national standards in nursing practice
  • Ability to engage in effective communication with diverse populations
  • Expertise in adult learning principles and teaching strategies

Preferred Skills

  • Certification in Education and/or clinical specialty area
  • Ability to recognize signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect

Requirements

Experience: Minimum of 3 years clinical experience

Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing

License & Certification:

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio
  • BLS certification
  • Certification in Education and/or clinical specialty area strongly preferred
  • NCI-APS (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills) Certification within 90 days of hire for UCMC Psychiatric Services
