Job Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
  • Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history.
  • Collect and record nursing assessment and interventions.
  • Review and report the results of health status assessments and physical examinations, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments of assigned patients to the provider.
  • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.
  • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
  • Administer all medications and blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage, route, time, and technique.
  • Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to the administration of therapies when applicable.
  • Facilitate dose modification by assessing patients, assessing labs, consulting protocols or treatment plans, calculating doses, and consulting physicians regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
  • Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
  • Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
  • Restock the supply area as needed.
  • Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents and biohazardous waste.
  • Maintain all disinfection protocols and equipment according to quality control standards.
  • Manage patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy and record the information in the patient chart.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures and maintain patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
  • Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests, referrals, and future appointments for patients.
  • Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient's chart.
  • Facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care.
  • Assist patients in locating community resources.
  • Assist and collaborate with clinical research and act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
  • Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing through ongoing education.

Requirements

Experience: 0-3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology

Education: Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred

License & Certification:

  • RN state license
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
