Job Responsibilities
- Directs, supervises, and coordinates nursing staff to assure high quality, optimum patient care.
- Responsible for the management and evaluation of clinical personnel.
- Coordinates schedules of department physicians, administrative, and nursing staff to ensure adequate coverage.
- Manages the duty assignments of clinical staff including Staff Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Medical Assistants.
- May provide coverage due to illness, vacations, or emergencies.
- Monitors departmental expenditures against a budget.
- Compiles daily and monthly administrative reports.
- Works closely with various departments including Human Resources, clinical quality, and safety.
- Formulates goals and outcomes using an evidence-based analysis of available data.
- Directs proper handling of patient records and coordinates with medical departments for admissions and scheduling.
- Handles phone calls from patients regarding medical problems and lab results.
- Monitors and maintains inventory levels for efficient clinic operation.
- Ensures compliance with specifications of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
- Utilizes tools of quality improvement to collect and report quality data.
- Instructs subordinates in proper examination room techniques and procedures.
- Manages Human Resources activities including recruiting, hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Nursing licensure in the State of Texas
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Clinical specialty certification
Preferred Skills
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Neurology experience
- Ambulatory care experience
- Experience with process improvement
- Experience managing Medical Assistants
Requirements
Experience: Three years of experience required; prior supervisory experience preferred.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Nursing or Associate's degree with additional experience.
License & Certification:
- Current nursing licensure in the State of Texas
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
