Job Responsibilities
- Provides anesthetic care for all types of patients and procedures in cooperation with supervising or medically directing physician.
- Administers anesthesia to patients rendering them insensitive to pain during surgery/procedures.
- Provides continuous vigilant observation of patients by monitoring their physical reaction to sedatives, analgesics, and anesthetic agents.
- Informs surgeon/anesthesiologist of any adverse condition that threatens patient safety.
- Maintains patient safety at all times.
- Maintains excellence in airway management and is familiar with usage of airway adjuncts.
- Works within scope of delineated clinical privileges.
- Takes precautions to minimize infection risks to patients and other health care professionals.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
- Participates in pre-anesthetic evaluation of patients and selection of anesthetic agents and techniques.
- Performs techniques of the anesthetic plan including intravenous catheter insertion and endotracheal intubation.
- Monitors patient's physical responses to anesthetics and informs the surgical team of any adverse conditions.
- Manages the anesthesia process including induction, maintenance, and emergence of general, regional, and monitored anesthesia cases.
- Recognizes abnormal patient responses to anesthesia and initiates corrective measures.
- Determines the need for additional laboratory tests and provides resuscitative care as necessary.
- Evaluates and manages the patient in the immediate post-operative period.
- Documents patient status in the anesthesia record.
- Performs safety and performance checks on anesthesia-related equipment.
- Participates in surgical pause with the surgical team as per compliance standards.
- Communicates appropriately with all individuals involved in peri-operative and post-operative care.
- Functions responsibly providing anesthesia care in the absence of an anesthesiologist during life-threatening emergencies.
- Assists with teaching and evaluation of newly-hired CRNAs, GRNAs, and SRNAs.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia
- Board certified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists
- Airway management expertise
- Invasive monitoring techniques

- Experience with anesthesia equipment
