Job Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living and provide for patient comfort.
- Make occupied and unoccupied beds; turn and position patients in bed; ambulate and dangle patients.
- Transfer patients and perform passive and assisting with active range-of-motion exercises.
- Assist patients with hygiene activities.
- Perform indwelling urinary catheter care (excluding insertion, removal and irrigation).
- Change non-sterile dressings and provide ileostomy/colostomy care.
- Assist with postmortem care.
- Assist patients with nutrition including passing trays, snacks and drinking water.
- Feed patients and measure and record intake from dietary trays.
- Assist patients with elimination needs and record accurate input and output.
- Collect and label sputum, urine, and stool specimens for laboratory testing.
- Test urine for sugar, acetone, blood or pH; strain urine for kidney stones.
- Use the glucometer to test blood glucose levels.
- Measure and record accurate vital signs and weight including oral and tympanic temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiratory rate.
- Use equipment and supplies safely and appropriately, including incentive spirometry and oxygen flow meters.
- Assist with controlling the spread of infection by using aseptic technique and adhering to standard precautions.
- Document care given as directed by the RN.
- Communicate effectively using communication systems and report observations to the RN.
- Perform other duties as assigned to facilitate department efficiency.
Required Skills
Core Skills
- Current Certified Nurse Aide (CENA) certification.
- Basic understanding of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology, and Patient Confidentiality.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider certificate.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in acute care or extended care facility.
- Equivalent experience such as Medical Assistant, Paramedic, or LPN.
Requirements
Experience: Preferred experience in acute care or extended care facility.
Education: Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
License & Certification:
- Current Certified Nurse Aide (CENA) certification.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider certificate.
Schedule:
- Weekends: Yes (every other)
