Job Responsibilities

Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history.
Collect and record nursing assessment and interventions.
Review and report the results of health status assessments and physical examinations, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments of assigned patients to the provider.
Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional material.
Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician.
Administer all medications and blood products using correct medication/blood product, dosage, route, time, and technique.
Assure pre-authorization and appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to the administration of therapies when applicable.
Facilitate dose modification by assessing patients, assessing labs, consulting protocols or treatment plans, calculating doses, and consulting physicians regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management.
Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
Maintain accurate documentation of assigned patient care and treatments provided.
Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
Restock the supply area as needed.
Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents and biohazardous waste.
Maintain all disinfection protocols and equipment according to quality control standards.
Manage patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy and record the information in the patient chart.
Assist physicians with exams and procedures and maintain patient flow in and out of exam rooms.
Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests, referrals, and future appointments for patients.
Triage patient phone calls as needed and document relevant information in the patient's chart.
Facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinate services related to patient care.
Assist patients in locating community resources.
Assist and collaborate with clinical research and act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.
Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing through ongoing education.

Requirements

Experience: 0-3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology

Education: Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred

License & Certification:

RN state license
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
